AIAT Coding Contest

We are happy to invite you to the Auroville Institute of Applied Technology Coding Contest. Participate in a fun, level-based coding challenge alongside like-minded people including our students. Reach new heights by teaming up with friends and receiving mentoring from one of our teachers or volunteers during the contest. Join us on Saturday the 19. April to challenge yourself in a fun and educational way. Use the chance to gain first-hand insights from our students and teachers. Network and Chat with like-minded people.

Location

Auroville Institute of Applied Technology, Irumbai Campus

Participants receive a certificate and the first 30 level 1 finishers receive an Auroville Institute of Applied Technology T-shirt. The top finishers will receive official Cloudflight Coding Contest Medals, Certificates, limited edition CCC T-shirts, Austrian Sweets and more prizes.

Fruits, Sweets and Tea available for all participants. All ages and skill groups are welcome; details are below!

This coding contest and its challenges are inspired by the Cloudflight Coding Contest. The CCC is the biggest coding contest of Europe, and has thousands of participants each year. Last year, we hosted the 40th anniversary of the official CCC for the first time in India.

Timetable

This event will be on the afternoon of Saturday the 19. April at the AIAT Irumbai Campus.

1:30pm – 1:50pm Arrival, Setup, Team Check-in, Onsite Preparation

1:50pm 2:00pm Wecome and Information speech

2:00pm4:30pm Coding Contest Competition

4:30pm5:00pm Award and Certification Ceremony, Group Pictures


Teams and Roles

In a team, there are 1-2 students and 1 mentor.

  • Students: 10th – 12th standard or equivalent; current B.Voc, Bachelor or equivalent students.
  • The students are the primary participants and write code to solve as many of the tasks as fast as possible.
  • Mentors: teachers and volunteers from AIAT and C3STREAM Land; People with teaching or professional experience; no age limit
  • Mentors should advise students on how to approach the problems/tasks. They are not allowed to write or dictate code in any way. Their goal is to guide the students learning and problem solving to progress through the levels of the challenge.
  • The goal is not only to have a competition but also to have a fun learning event and environment. Additionally, you will get to know your potential future colleagues and teachers.

Preparation

  • Fill out the Participation Form. Please update if anything changes.

  • Invite your friends and classmates to join the contest.

  • Read with the rules, prizes, … and the materials you can use during the contest.

  • Practice with Python and VS-Code, including basics, file handling, working with data from a string, debugging, …


Rules and Instructions

Please participate with the following rules in mind. Violating them will lead to disqualification or other actions.

  • Every participant has to arrive before 1:20 PM

  • The contest will be offline, so web resources and AI Tools are unavailable and not allowed. This decision was made to keep it fair and focus more on learning progress and coding skills.

  • During the contest you will have access to the official python documentation as a PDF and our internal coding notes.

  • Our computer lab is set up with the programming language Python and the IDEs Spyder and Visual Studio Code, and you cannot install your software there.

  • Mentors are not allowed to write or dictate code. You should advise and guide the learning and problem-solving progress. Explain/Translate the tasks to/for them and help communication. Don’t solve the problems for your students.

  • The time starts for everyone at once. If you are late, unprepared, … the others will have a head start. So please make sure you arrive before 1:40 PM.

  • All Teams that did not finish Level 1 until 3 PM will get a separate lesson on Python instead of participating in rest of the Contest.
